Air India started out as Tata Airlines and was founded by Mr J.R.D Tata in 1932, Tata Airline became Air India PLC in 1946.Air India is India's national flag carrier
Air India's aircraft logo is mostly red and white. The undercarriage of the aircraft is unpainted metal but the upper part has white background with the airline's name AIR INDIA in red on one side and the name is in Devnagari script the other side. The red palace surround to the windows refer to the slogan "your palace in the sky" this is written on the back of the aircraft. Air India Aircraft are named after Indian kings or landmarks. The tail is mostly red with the airlines name written in Devnagari script on one side and English on the other as on the body of the aircraft.
Indian Airline aircraft were mainly white with a light grey undercarriage. Indian Airlines was based at Indira Gandhi Airport in Delhi, Indian Airline is state owned, plans are currently in place to merge Indian Airlines with Air India, which the government approved in 2007.
